I'm a Grandma!!

God has blessed us with a new baby!! Shannon and David announced their new blessing to us Tuesday night at dinner, the day after arriving home for Thanksgiving. They gave us an amazing sonogram picture of our 7 week grandchild. What a glorious celebration we had. We were also blessed to have Dan's folks (new greatgrand parents) with us this night.

Shannon and David then got to bless the rest of the Wrights-Kleins on Thanksgiving Day.

Baby Skarka is due to arrive on July 3, or maybe Independence Day...and the world will celebrate with us!!

I guess life got crazy for me after I started this blog, so I haven't even had time to post anything. As you all know this is my 3rd semester of nursing school, with just 1 more to go. I will be graduating on June 7 with my degree, and then I will take the NCLEX board exam a month after that to get my RN license! Classes and clinicals are going really well (but are a LOT OF WORK!)
I had 2 big weddings this month, my friend Anya's and my BFF Monica's! Anya had a beautiful wedding in Manhattan Beach, afterwards I stayed at the Klein's house and got to go to Allison, Bruce and Emily's soccer games. Scott came over for dinner and then we had a belated birthday cake for Uncle Dan which Morgan made....

Monica's wedding was this last weekend, here in Santa Cruz, which I was a bridesmaid in. My Dad came out for the wedding and it was lots of fun.

Here are some pictures! Can't wait to see everyone this week at Grandma's house. I'll be getting there in the early afternoon on Thursday and staying til Sunday.

From the Skarka's...

Well, hello, to everyone! Dave and I spent this last summer in Colorado Springs, CO. He worked at Fort Carson Army Base as an intern for the JAG Corps. We LOVED being near the mountains again and spent as much time as possible exploring the beautiful scenery around the Rockies - driving to see almost twenty 13ers and 14ers and hiking and biking in the mountains... Mom and Dad Haskins came to visit in July and we all went to the top of Pike's Peak together (driving actually, though Dave did hike the 13 mile trail himself at the end of the summer)...

Our two favorite places to visit in Colorado were Twin Lakes where we stayed overnight at a bed and breakfast for our anniversary (pic on left - it would be a great place to go back for a family camping trip!) and the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs (pic on right).
Mom and Dad adventured on the drive back to Virginia across the United States with me (Dad was the driving marathon champion, driving all day long for three days without a substitute!) Just ask them sometime about our crazy picture spree through "Shelbyville, Kentucky." I think we were a little looney from the drive, but we were laughing our heads off and must have taken at least 25 pictures of "Shelby" signs throughout the little town to make a souvenir picture book for Shelby. (I'm sure she'll keep it for years to come as a valuable possession and reminder of our unashamed love for her...)
Now, Dave is back in school and we are busy with our normal routine of study and work. Law school has been pretty strenuous for us, but we are trying to also focus this last year on enjoying the time we have with our friends in Virginia. It all goes by really fast! But then, hopefully, we will be able to move back to the "West" and be closer to the rest of the fam. :-)

Entry #2

Well, I thought I'd get the ball rolling, since Hollie kicked it off. As you all know, this summer my life's taken a new turn.... done with my BA degree, moved out of my house, working full time, just to name a few. I haven't taken many pictures of my house yet, but i'll send them when I do. But for now, I'll send a picture of my roommate (Kelly) and I at Grandma and Grandpa's house. We took the drive up there, along with my plant, Evelyn, and spent the day dancing, eating and taking tons of pictures at their folk dance potluck in August. Then, Grandpa helped me give Evelyn her very first hair cut. Someday she'll be a giant Coastal Redwood tree, and when she's old enough, I'm hoping to find her a home somewhere by the creek or infront of the barn. It was a beautiful summer day at the cabin, as usual, and I wish you all could have been there. Until next time....

yay or nay?

Hey guys!
I hope this somehow gets to everyone. I had this idea recently when I was sitting in Aunt Sue's kitchen and she was telling me how much she enjoys reading her friends' blogs and then I was thinking about how hard it is for all of us to keep up on each other's lives in between family gatherings. And since the internet has become so central to all of our lives, we might as well embrace it and use it to stay connected.

So my idea was to start this family blog where we can all post stories and pictures about whatever is going on in our lives, however small or big. If anyone isn't too sure about how to do this, I can help you! So, if you guys are into this, save this blog under your "bookmarks" so that you can get to it easy, email me and I'll get you set up so that you can log on and write your own posts.

let me know what you think!
